Modern artist Henri Émile Benoît Matisse was a French visual artist, known for both his use of colour and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. Silkscreen print depicting a cut gouache of 1947. In his later years, Matisse enjoyed cutting abstract motifs from brightly painted papers. The process of creating collages with scissors gave him the feeling of working more 'directly' with colour than ever before.
