Raoul Dufy was a French painter who was associated with Fauvism, an art movement established by a group of early 20th century modern artists whose work emphasised painterly qualities and strong colours over realism. ‘Regates dans le Port de Trouville’ features the harbour in the city of Trouville-sur-Mer in north-western France. Inspired by fellow French masters Claude Monet and Henri Matisse, Dufy is renowned for his joyful portrayals of leisure pursuits, cityscapes, and interior scenes.
