Modern French impressionist artist Paul Cezanne avant-garde Impressionist style inspired artists such as Picasso to establish Cubism. Cezanne often used repetitive, exploratory brushstrokes and planes of colour to form complex paintings. ‘Mont Saint Victoire’ is an oil painting produced by Cezanne in 1900 which depicts a mountain in southern France which overlooks the Aix-en-Provence. Mont Saint Victoire became one of Cezanne’s most repeated subjects, changing the lighting in each composition to evoke a new sense of mood.
