Modern artist August Macke was one of the leading members of German Expressionism (The Blue Rider) who also integrated his painting into the arrival of the Avant-Garde movement in Europe. 'St Germain near Tunis' is a watercolour on paper. The view from the balcony of the country house belonging to Dr Jaeggi in St Germain, where Macke stayed from 10th-13th April 1914. His work displays the uncanny influence of Cubism and Fauvism, seamlessly bringing together classic elements from both movements.
