Following the outbreak of the Second World War, the British government introduced food rationing – a scheme designed to ensure fair shares for all at a time of national shortage. Although the war ended in 1945, rationing continued on some products up until 1954. This photo of a mobile butcher visiting their local town in Glasgow was taken in 1955 when people could finally purchase meat without restrictions.
