London based Contemporary Designer Charlene Mullen likes to weave a narrative through her charming illustrations. Using her favourite German paper cuts - Scherenschnitte – some dating back to the 16th century each tree has a tale to tell in her ‘Forest of Trees’ series. In ‘Owls and Pussy Cat’, you have sentinel birds looking out for trouble, the cat ever hopeful, the expectant parents telling a neighbour, a flock of naughty teenagers and the snooty Owls above it all. The addition of colour makes them contemporary, the originals always just being monochrome.
