Leonardo da Vinci was a High Renaissance artist widely regarded as one of the greatest painters of all time. Da Vinci’s fame initially rested on his achievements as a painter, but he also gained recognition for his notebooks which commented on science and invention. ‘Mona Lisa’ is a half-length portrait of the Italian noblewoman Lisa Gherardini painted between 1503-1517. It is considered to be a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance and has been described as ‘the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about, the most parodied work of art in the world’.
