Jules Cheret was a French painter and lithographer who became a master of modern poster art. Cheret was influenced by the scenes of frivolity depicted in the works of Rocco artists. This poster features the American dancer Loie Fuller performing in a cabaret dance. Fuller was an important attraction at the 1900 Paris world fair, embodying Art Nouveau with her innovative choreography and silk costumes illuminated by multicoloured electric lights.
