Mark Rothko was a Latvian-born American abstract painter and was associated with the American abstract expressionism movement of modern art. 'No 61. (Rust and Blue)' by Mark Rothko. By 1947 Rothko had begun naming his abstract expressionist work using numbers and colours, abandoning traditional titles that he felt would influence the viewer's perception of the work.
