Iconic Pre 1900 impressionist painter Pierre Auguste Renoir visited the artist’s colony at the small town of Pont-Aven on several occasions during the late 1880’s and early 1890’s. For this painting Renoir played with the contrast between the loose brushstrokes in the foreground and the more defined tree trunks moving him away from the impressionist technique and towards a more forceful use of colour.
