The Jas de Bouffan was an estate just outside Aix-en-Provence owned by Paul Cézanne's father. Modern French impressionist artist Paul Cézanne painted many views of the house and the grounds from 1866 until 1899, when the estate was sold. Cézanne was especially fond of the estate because it offered him with the solitude he needed to work. This painting has been executed with small parallel brushstrokes, a technique Cézanne favoured in the 1880s. It creates a shimmering effect that is particularly well suited to this picture. The leaves of the trees seem to rustle in the breeze. This print is colour matched to the original and approved by the Courtauld Gallery. Every purchase supports the work of the Courtauld.
