Modern artist Egon Schiele was a major 20th century figurative painter from Austria who produced a plethora of vibrant paintings and drawings, the large majority of which depict the nude female form which marked him as an early exponent of expressionism. Schiele often painted his sitters like the woman in 'Reclining Woman with Blond Hair', half-dressed and positioned in a revealing pose, highlighting women's sexuality during a time of strict female oppression.
