Modern artist August Macke was one of the leading members of German Expressionism (The Blue Rider) who also integrated his painting into the arrival of the Avant-Garde movement in Europe. ‘At the Garden Table’ was produced by Macke in 1914 which features a colourful depiction of two men sat a table. The perspective of this piece has begun to disappear in favour of an ornamental two-dimensionality of the abstract forms.. His work displays the uncanny influence of Cubism and Fauvism, seamlessly bringing together classic elements from both movements.
