Modern artist August Macke was one of the leading members of German Expressionism (The Blue Rider) who also integrated his painting into the arrival of the Avant-Garde movement in Europe. ‘Eastern Women’ an elegant rendition of two women observing a bird situated amongst flowers, vines, and shrubs. The whole canvas is an explosion of non-descriptive colour enhancing the exotic theme of the painting. His work displays the uncanny influence of Cubism and Fauvism, seamlessly bringing together classic elements from both movements.
