In 1917 Italian modern artist Amedeo Modigliani produced ‘Young Girl in a Striped Shirt’ which features an unidentified woman wearing a white and black striped shirt with a tie. The woman looks directly at the viewer and her brown hair cut into a bob style is accentuated by the dull grey background. Like most of Modigliani’s portraits, the woman has been depicted with an elongated face and neck and almond shaped eyes.
