In 1916 Italian modern artist Amedeo Modigliani produced ‘Head of a Young Girl’ which features an unidentified woman wearing a red shirt looking directly at the viewer. Her her brown hair and skin are the only features which distinguish her from the burgundy background. Like most of Modigliani’s portraits, the woman has been depicted with an elongated face and neck and almond shaped eyes.
