In 1919 Italian modern artist Amedeo Modigliani produced ‘Portrait of Mario Varvogli’. The painting features the Belgium born musician Mario Varvogli, who close friends with Modigliani. Varvogli has been captured with his legs crossed wearing a suit, jacket and fedora looking directly at the viewer. Like most of Modigliani’s portraits, Varvogli has been depicted with an elongated face and neck and almond shaped holes for his eyes.
