Swiss born German artist Paul Klee was an incredibly proilific artist who created over 10,000 art works over his 40-year career, which is more than almost any other artist in history. Within this you will find watercolours, oil paintings, drawings, hand puppets and much more besides influenced by art movements like expressionism, cubism and surrealism. During the summer of 1927 Klee produced 'Sailing Boats' a beautifully balanced composition by populating the picture plane with abstracted triangles, diamonds, and semicircles suggestive of sailing boats. Many have suggested the dominant watercolour wash of blue alludes to the Mediterranean sea.
