Modern artist Torsten Jovinge was a Swedish painter and draftsman who was mainly associated with Purism and impressionism, an early 20th century art movement that had roots in Cubism but opposed its decorative and intricate forms. Jovinge produced ‘Outside the Central Palace’ in 1931 which depicts a view outside the Royal Palace of Stockholm which overlooks the Norrström river. Jovinge used just a few colours for the view, drawing attention to the overall form of the painting.
