Building on his earlier experiments, abstract artist and co founder of Orphism art movement Robert Delaunay achieved the illusion of movement by juxtaposing geometric forms with primary colours. In 1934 Delaunay produced ‘Endless Rhythm’ carefully contrasting spheres of colour with thick black outlines positioned in a diagonal formation. A year after this painting was produced, Delaunay brought the discs to life as part of his public mural which decorated the Palais des Chemins de Fer and Palais de l’Air at the Paris World’s Fair.
