In 'Permutations Ochre', Ulster abstract painter William Scott develops his familiar subject of kitchen utensils – which formed the basis of much of his work throughout the 1950s and 60s – into a flatter and more sparse composition. The ground, which in earlier works had been rendered with thick, almost sculptural brush marks, is applied here in thinner layers, giving a luminous and delicate texture. Produced in partnership with Tate and the Royal Academy of Arts.
