Georgia O’Keeffe was a key pioneer in the emergence of American modern art and was best known for her sensuous paintings recording the natural world. In 1945 O’Keefe bought a second house in Abiquiú, New Mexico, and produced paintings inspired by the arid landscape. This included ‘Dead Tree with Pink Hill’ which features a grey tree situated in front of the pink-hues of a mountainous range.
