Modern artist Egon Schiele was a major 20th century figurative painter from Austria who produced a plethora of vibrant paintings and drawings, the large majority of which depict the nude female form which marked him as an early exponent of expressionism. Egon Schiele produced this gouache, watercolour and pencil work entitled 'Mother and Daughter' in 1913 which features a girl’s elongated body slumped against her mother’s warm embrace.
