Modern artist Egon Schiele was a major 20th century figurative painter from Austria who produced a plethora of vibrant paintings and drawings, the large majority of which depict the nude female form which marked him as an early exponent of expressionism. Schiele produced a number of portraits of his wife. This included 'The Artist's Wife' which features Harms sitting on the floor resting her cheek on her left knee and wearing a vibrant green top which contrasts with her striking red hair.
