Alphonse Mucha was a Czech painter, illustrator, and graphic artist who mainly worked in Paris, France. He was a key figurehead of the Art Nouveau movement. Taking up poster design for financial reasons, Mucha eventually established himself as a poster artist known for his distinctly stylised and decorative designs. Mucha produced this sketch for a poster of a woman holding a glass for Ruinart, the oldest established Champagne house in France.
