Tamara de Lempicka was a Polish artist who is best known for her Art Deco portraits and stylised nudes which blend refined cubism with a neoclassical style. Whilst living in Paris De Lempicka was commissioned to produce a cover for the German fashion magazine ‘Die Dame’ to celebrate the independence of women. De Lempicka painted a self-portrait that featured the artist in a green Bugatti wearing a leather helmet and gloves. This piece has become one of the best-known examples of Art Deco painting.
