Tamara de Lempicka was a Polish artist who is best known for her Art Deco portraits and stylised nudes which blend refined cubism with a neoclassical style. In 1930 she produced this portrait of her close friend and lover Ira Perrot. De Lempicka captured Perrot in a clinging white satin gown leaning against the edge of the picture. She is also draped in a billowing red shawl which echoes the redness of her lips and fingernails. Perrot holds a bouquet of lilies which often serve as a symbol of romantic appeal and erotic allure.
